Artificial Intelligence and Criminology: Investigating AI's Role in Crime Prevention, Investigation, and Intellectual Property Protection

Abstract

The importance of artificial intelligence (AI) has been a revolution in the field of criminology, which can change the way crime is prevented or even crimes are investigated. In this paper, the author investigates the application of AI to law enforcement and intellectual property (IP) protection and dwells upon the AI-centered technology of predictive policing, facial recognition, and digital forensics. Although AI has tremendous potential in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of criminal justice systems, it also poses urgent ethical issues especially in respect to privacy, prejudice, and responsibility. The given work focuses on the application of AI in crime detection, surveillance, and investigation, particularly the IP protection, such as counterfeits and digital theft detection. This paper identifies the twofold role of AI in contributing to the evolution of criminology and protection of intellectual property rights through the consideration of the existing practices and case studies. The results indicate that although AI can transform the police and combat IP violations, regulatory controls and ethical standards are necessary to alleviate risks and promote their responsible application. The paper concludes with policy recommendations for law enforcement agencies, legislators, and technology developers to foster ethical and transparent AI applications in criminology and IP law.
