Climate Change through the Lens of Global Political Economy and Capitalism

Abstract

This study analyzes the interconnection between the Climate Change, Global Political Economy (GPE) and Capitalism. Capitalists are the major drivers of degradation of eco-systems. The roots of climate change trace back to the Industrial Revolution when industries were developed and were totally dependent on fossil fuels. This paper analyzes how capitalists contributed to carbon and green-house gas emissions that support the Global North in financial growth while Global South contributes less, and they are facing the severe consequences most. They are facing the worst droughts, floods, and food insecurity. This paper also examines how capitalists exploit nature and extract resources for their profit.
