Case Study on Autism Spectrum Disorder

Abstract

M.H. was 5 years old and referred to the special educationist by the parents for assessment and management of his behavior problems. He shows stereotype and repetitive patterns of behaviors like lining up toys, laying on the floor, shouting, hand flapping from excitement, head banging, minimal on seat behavior have minimal eye contact, no order following, marked deficits in verbal and non-verbal social communication skills. Unusual interest in sensory aspects like smelling, biting, tasting. The child was assessed in different dimensions using the childhood autism rating scale (CARS-2) and Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLL-S) for identifying the reinforcer, behavioral observation and clinical interview were conducted. According to the CARS-2 assessment, the child obtained a 37.5 score, falling on the moderate to severe autistic level. The child’s management plan was developed, including rapport building, an individualized education program, and teaching him through reinforcement, prompting, and Modeling techniques. A total of 40 sessions were done on the child. With the help of management plan and intervention technique 60% of the improvement was observed in child.
